Australian gay rights advocates have called on comedian Jerry Lewis to apologise for declaring cricket "a fag's game" and accompanying his comment with effeminate gestures during a press conference in Sydney.
Australian Coalition for Equality spokesperson, Rodney Croome, said that Mr Lewis' behaviour was offensive and unfunny.
"Mr Lewis owes an apology to the gay community, to cricketers, and to comedians for debasing their trade with his cheap homophobia", Mr Croome said.
"Mr. Lewis is widely admired by many people for his talent and his charity work, so his words carry great weight, and can foster great prejudice."
Last year Mr Lewis apologised for using the term "illiterate faggot" during his annual US Labor Day telethon that raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
In a subsequent statement he described the slur as a "bad choice of words."
