Call on Roxon to remove gay-hate mens' health ambassadors
26 November 2008
Gay rights groups have called on Health Minister, Nicola Roxon, to remove two newly-appointed mens' health ambassadors because of their gay-hate record.
The ambassadors, Warwick Marsh of the Fatherhood Foundation and Barry Williams from the Lone Fathers Association, are co-authors of a paper which claims homosexuality is a mental illness and homosexuals are more likely to abuse drugs, children and their partners.
Australian Coalition for Equality spokesperson, Rodney Croome, said that prejudice has no place in promoting public health.
"If the Federal Government is sincere about an inclusive and effective men's health agenda it must remove these hate mongers immediately", Mr Croome said.
"We call on the Government to appoint ambassadors who can reach out to all men whose health is at risk."
Mr Croome said he would be happy to see gay men appointed as mens' health ambassadors but because they have expertise in the field and not simply because they are gay.
