About the "T" in LGBTI
While working hard to educate journalists and politicians on their language, ACE is a lobby group. As such, we must use language and terms currently understood by those we seek to influence – even while striving to increase their understanding
ACE recognises and respects the variety of gender-diverse Australians, and offers its support to informing mainstream society about those differences.
At this point in time, ACE uses the term "transgender" in media releases and on its website to represent all gender-diverse Australians. This is a widely-accepted and understood word, of value in assuring journalists and politicians get the message that ACE is lobbying for all Australians who suffer discrimination because of their sexuality or gender diversity – not only for those who are same-sex attracted.
No slight is intended to any, and ACE will continue to work towards the day when Australia not only recognises and accepts our amazing diversity, but celebrates that reality!
